Hold on tight and ride this storm

January 5, 2022

Five days of 2022 have passed already. The word 'hope' has been written about on numerous occasions. Our peak amount of Covid-19 cases are yet to hit us. Mid January is the forecast and then we will be riding high on cases for roughly another 2 weeks. Whereby, the numbers will hopefully subside. That takes us to some time in February. Pity that my birthday is in January. Maybe I will have to give it a miss this year? Anyone else thinking the same?

The general feeling in South Australia and Australia for January, I believe, is that we go into hibernation, if we can, to protect ourselves, work from home when we return from our holidays, get our booster shots when we are eligible, and pray that we don't get Omicron, Delta or whatever the next variant there is.

Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. We all hope that we can get through this next month unscathed. We all hope that 2022 won't be the shit storm that 2020 and 2021 were. We all hope that the light at the end of the tunnel for the hospitality, restaurant, event, music and small business industries starts to shine brightly, so that people can go back to working in the industries that they love and have given their blood, sweat and tears to for many years. Who is thinking of jumping ship? Don't be ashamed if you have. Sometimes, you must save yourself before you can save others.

I am a wedding, event and real estate photographer and yet this year, I feel like a novice surfer who can't swim. A surfer who has paddled out way too far and now has nothing else to do but hold on tight and ride the wave to bring me back to shore. And that, my friends, is what I think that we should do this January. Hold on tight and ride this storm, to February.

Sending much love and support and life jackets, if needed.
